Kari Finnegan, PhD

Exercise has long been a passion of mine and is one of my favorite ways to manage the stress of daily life. I enjoy using activities such as resistance training and yoga not only to cope with stress, but to improve mind-body awareness and connection, practice mindfulness and breath work, and boost confidence and body positivity. I am excited to be able to offer others the opportunity to develop these skills and more by incorporating exercise and movement into traditional psychotherapy.

I earned my doctorate from the University of Iowa and completed postdoctoral training at Central Iowa Psych Services. Much of my clinical training was done at the VA and private practice. After working as a psychologist for several years, I became certified as a personal trainer. I use a strengths-based, collaborative approach to help each client feel empowered, develop insight, and improve quality of life. Through the combination of traditional talk therapy, physical activity, and intention, we will train body and mind to create and sustain healthy habits and improve quality of life. We’ll work hard. Probably sweat, maybe cry. We’ll do this with intention and purpose, patience and empathy.

If you’ve never been to therapy or the gym, no problem. If you’re experienced and well-versed with one or the other, no problem. Consider something new. Reinvigorate something familiar.
